In my time working at Pinewood Creative at the famous Pinewood Studios - Iver Heath, I go to work with an amazingly talented team and be part of some great projects. Some small, some big.

The Plebs TV series was normally filmed in Eastern Europe, but the requirements for their concluding episode meant they needed to have a duplicate set built in the UK of their Colosseum set. As you can see the set was a partial area of the arena, concentrating on the walls and main gate.

We built a replica set at Shepperton Studios, and as you can see from the photos, caging was required as animals were being filmed, as the main reason for the set. Working closely with the Chipperfield company, this set needed to work in conjunction with the animal’s enclosure, set up in adjacent sound stages.

It was a great project, and although I much prefer to see these amazing creatures in the wild, it was an amazing experience to be so close to them.

The carpenters and scenic department did a great job and it was great to design the set and then oversee the construction. Oh yes, and there were 16 tons of sand!
